Dr Gamalenkosi Nhlonzi
Pathologist
Dr. Nhlonzi is former acting HOD Anatomical Pathology -NHLS KwaZulu-Natal and
the University of KwaZulu-Natal, School of Laboratory Medicine and Basic Medical
Sciences. He graduated in 2006 from the University of the Witwatersrand,
Johannesburg with MBBCh. Later obtained Master of Medicine in Anatomical
Pathology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2017 and Fellowship of the
Collage of Pathologists of South Africa in 2016. He is passionate about teaching
and research and has presented his work in local and international congresses. He
recently been a faculty member for the European Society of Clinical Microbiology
and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) - Advanced Course on Histopathology of
Parasitic Infections. He has successfully supervised several MMED students. He
remains an external examiner to various institutions of higher learning.
His daily work entails reporting histopathology samples, attending multidisciplinary
meetings, performing and reporting frozen sections in theatre. Preparing and
reporting cytopathology slides in theatre. His publications speak to his function as a
general pathologist and thus range from infectious diseases, neuropathology, breast
pathology, liver pathology and haematopathology. In his spare time if not playing
cricket or soccer with his boys and doing makeup with his daughter, you will find him
taking part in athletic events. He is the chairman of Manguzi Athletic Club and
member of KwaZulu-Natal Athletics Provincial structure.
He is an avid marathon runner and has participated in Comrades Ultramarathon and
Two Oceans MArathon.
