Pinky Manana

PhD Candidate Epidemiologist I Public Health Specialist I Researcher

Pinky is a qualified epidemiologist with over 10 years of experience in public health. She holds a master's in public health and is currently an Epidemiologist and Ph.D. candidate at the University of the Witwatersrand. Her research topic focused on "Exploring the use of creative arts as community engagement strategies in the context of a pilot Sterile Insect Technique programme in South Africa" and is in her final year. She has published her work in international peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international conferences, driving discussions on community engagement in malaria control. She played a key role in developing community engagement programs for malaria elimination in South Africa and have collaborated with stakeholders, including the CDC and the National Department of Health, on epidemiology capacity building and outbreak preparedness. Recently, she has contributed to COVID-19 response efforts, including surveillance, data analysis, protocol development, and vaccine rollout support. She is currently employed by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases as an Epidemiologist in the Centre for Hospital-Associated Infections, Antimicrobial Resistance and Mycosis.
